You should be able to operate your screen during calls if the proximity sensor is turned off.
A proximity sensor is built inside your gadget. The proximity sensor is positioned on the phone’s upper front (above the display). The time it takes for the sensor to turn the display on or off before or after a call is fixed. The display can take up to a few seconds to switch on or off.
To wake up, turn off Lift. When you pick up your phone with the Lift to Wake option enabled, the screen will turn on. To turn off this feature, go to Settings and then Advanced Features. Toggle off “Lift to wake” by tapping the switch next to it in Motions and gestures.
